Waiting for Lefty

Produced by Iowa Conservatory (ICON) for their inaugural year, A 1935 play by Clifford Odets, Waiting for Lefty highlights a series of vignettes ultimately surrounding a meeting planning the New York City cab driver’s labor strike.

The costume design is quite simple, utilizing ivory, beige, grey, and white to create a stark, clean palette, that served as a projection surface on actors as times. To highlight characters joining the union strike, Abigail designed a speciality fabric with red lettering used in labor phrases. The fabric was then used to create pieces characters could put on throughout the production, from neck scarves, to armbands, to shirt sleeves.

This production included ICON high school actors and professional AEA actors.
