Abigail Mansfield Coleman (she/her) is a costume designer and lover of all things textiles. She holds a Master of Fine Arts from The University of Iowa in Theatre Arts, Design, and a BFA in Musical Theatre from Shorter University. She is the new Assistant Professor of Costume Design at the University of Idaho.

She has designed costumes for over 60 theatrical productions from large musicals, to intimate new works. Some favorites include Into the Woods (3 times!); Carousel; Little Women; String; Anything Goes; Tuck Everlasting, The Musical (2018 KCACTF Region IV Faculty Costume Design Nomination); Exit the King (2017 KCACTF Region IV Faculty Costume Design nomination); Annie Get Your Gun; Shrek: The Musical; Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, Henry V, As You Like It, Much Ado About Nothing, Hamlet, and many more.

Her work has taken her all the way to London, U.K, where she spent part of her summer in 2022 building costumes and large structural elements, and then walking in one of those costumes in Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Parade in partnership with Mahogany Carnival Designs.

She had the privilege to work on productions with the following: University of Iowa Department of Theatre Arts, Riverside Theatre, Mahogany Carnival Designs (London, UK), Nolte Academy, Mirrorbox Theatre, Sigmon Theatrical, The Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, Cornell College, Shorter University Theatre, Shorter University Opera, Rome Shakespeare Festival, Rome Little Theatre, Gaston School of the Arts, Encore Theatre Guild, Little Theatre of Gastonia, The Abbey Players, and Iowa Conservatory (ICON).

When not in production, you can find Abigail reading in her grandma-chic armchair, cooking new recipes with her partner, Kyle, or in the air practicing moves with the University of Idaho’s Aerial Arts Club!
