My Favorite Year

Benji Stone recalls his favorite year, 1954, when he was working as a junior comedy writer for a variety show called Comedy Cavalcade and got to meet his hero, actor Alan Swann. But when Swann arrives to the studio drunk, Benji promises to keep an eye on his idol and make sure he stays sober for the week of rehearsal and the taping of the show. Benji is also crushing on his colleague K.C. Downing who only dreams of being funny and a writer on the show. Swann’s daughter shows up and wants to reunite with him, but will this send Swann over the edge?

Using early 1950s and late 1940s fashion, Abigail crafted an amalgamation of looks and styles reminiscent of the era. Keeping more neutral everyday colors reserved for Benji and his colleagues, all the pattern, sparkle, and jewel tones zipped across the stage for the TV sketch characters, and out-of-the-box musical numbers to disrupt the characters’ lives.
