Twelfth Night

After losing her twin brother in a shipwreck, Viola washes onto the shores of Illyria: an idyllic dukedom full of revelry and music. Viola hatches a plan to survive on her own, disguising herself as a young gentleman in the court of Duke Orsino. Soon she is caught up in a storm of romance, antics, revenge, and mistaken identity. From Shakespeare’s first folio, a comedy populated by a raucous band of Illyrians in a resort paradise make this an unforgettable play.

Influenced by the idea of merging a period look with the gender swapping between characters, Abigail based the costume design on fashion designer Michael Fish’s designs and 1960s and 1970s mod fashion. From some characters swapping traditionally gendered colors, to period garb, to bringing in the island vibes with 1960s styles swimwear, Abigail’s designs are vibrant and whimsical in Riverside Theatre’s summer park setting.
